Wildfires blazed through my hometown of Velma, Oklahoma this past weekend destroying 14 homes in the community. It was devastating to see the impact the fires had on homes of my friends and distant family members. My immediate family and our home is safe, Praise God! But, please pray for those who did lose their homes. Some families lost absolutely everything they had. Others did not have their homes insured.
The Red Cross is set up at the Velma Baptist Church Life Center on Main Street and is collected clothing, personal items, and food for the victims. I am also collecting items here in Norman and will be taking a load down on Friday afternoon if anyone would like to donate.
A cleanup day is scheduled for this Sunday, April 19. Unfortunately that is the same day as the AK5K, which I am already committed to. However, if anyone else would like to attend and give their time to helping clean up from the fires here is the information for that event:
Clean up day Sunday, April 19th from 2 – 7 p.m. Meet @ Velma Baptist Life Center before for your assignment and after you finish for dinner. Velma Baptist Church is located on 100 N Main St. Velma, OK. The Life Center is directly behind the church.
