Approximately 120 Southern Baptist churches exist within a seven mile radius of the seminary campus. And that doesn’t even include the other denominations and religions, that’s strictly Southern Baptist. Talk about overwhelming when trying to find a home church. To help in our efforts of finding a place to serve, Southwestern hosts a church fair where churches give information to students about themselves.
I think the church fair may have been a little more overwhelming for me that it was helpful. I met some excellent people, but it’s sad because I know I’ll never be able to visit all of their churches. It would take me the entire two years I’ll be here to visit each church just once! And with so many churches doing excellent work in the community and abroad, it’s hard to choose just one.
But, I did come home with some pretty cool stuff – pens, magnets, cookies and free Chick-fil-a. Some of the churches were very creative in their ‘advertising’ for the event. Here are some of the cute and unique items I received:
A peppermint with the label, “We were just ‘mint’ to come together to serve and worship the Lord at R Baptist Church.”
An energy bar – “Get energized at G Baptist Fellowship.”
Ramen noodles – “Use your noodle, come to LP Church.”
Bag of popcorn – “Things ‘pop’ at S Drive Baptist Church.”
Roll of toilet paper – “Don’t come up short, join us this Sunday!”
