New Year’s Resolution #4

I like to think of myself as an artist.  Writing is definitely an art.  And I am a writer.  The older I get and the more I write, I’m reminded it takes hard work, persistence, patience and skill.  As a writer, when words get jumbled and my brain stops working, I need time off.  But, I miss the creativity, putting the pieces together, making something ugly turn into something beautiful.  That’s why I turn to other art forms.  Restoration seems to be a theme in my life:  I’ve been restored by Christ.  I enjoy restoring things.  Writing is restoring the letters of the alphabet and mixed together thoughts into a beautiful story.  Cleaning is restoring what has become dirty and stinky into something lovely and enjoyable.  Crafting is taking single pieces of cloth or paint or junk and meshing it together to form a masterpiece.

That’s what Jesus has done for me.  Ephesians 2:10 says so…

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

I think knowing that I’m a masterpiece of my Creator drives me to create beauty in all things.  I desire it.  I crave it.  My body longs for it.  And I want to do more of it.

Thus making one of my New Year’s Resolutions to craft.  In the past I’ve painted several canvases for friends getting married, and even last year for Chris’ birthday.  I’ve put together several quilts for newborn babies of friends and using my great-grandmothers extra fabric.  I’ve created scrapbooks with photos and colors and paper.  I’ve completed a few home design works of art.  A little bit of everything.

I’m now pro by any means.  Crafting is more of a hobby that I delight in.  This year, I want to spend some of my extra time as an artist.  Before attending Seminary, I had much more time to craft.  This spring is one of the only semester’s I won’t be taking classes.  My desire is to spend some of my extra time and money working on a few artsy projects on my to-do list.  Or in our generation’s case, my Pinterest board.

You can see my “I Could Make This” board on my Pinterest for projects I want to make.  And also check out my “I Did Make This, Thanks Pinterest!” board for projects I found on Pinterest and have already  made.

Including the next project I want to make: A dinner menu for our kitchen!

Never Run Out Of Dinner Ideas Again!

I’m always inspired by so many people and events.  I have the dreams and ideas right in front of me, now it’s time to pursue them!
