"Educating girls changes everything."

Saw this on Twitter and just had to share.  Stories like this break my heart!  Support these girls if you can.  “Educating girls changes everything.”
2-Yr Nursing Training for One Girl in Burkina Faso

Summary

This microproject will provide a 2-year scholarship to a village girl who has completed secondary school at the top of her class in northern Burkina Faso, making it possible for her get certificate nursing training. Her education will enable her to gain productive employment and contribute to the health & education of her family and to the development of her community and her country. Without such assistance , she will return to the village & the life of her mother, including forced marriage.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

About 80 high achieving girls from subsistence farming families graduate from secondary school each year in northern Burkina Faso, assisted by the Lambs Support Girls’ Education Project. Without financial help, they return to the village and the life of their mothers, including forced marriages and no chance to escape the cycle of poverty for them, their families and their communities. The project will send a girl like Eugenie or Larissa (see photo) to certificate nursing training next year.

How will this project solve this problem?

The project will support the cost of a two-year certificate nursing training program for a qualified girl like Larissa and Eugenie (see photo) whose parents are subsistence farmers in northern Burkina Faso. Her education will enable her to gain productive employment and contribute to the health and education of her family and to the development of her community and her country.

Potential Long Term Impact

Educating girls changes everything. When a girl in Burkina Faso receives an education, she marries later and has fewer children. When she earns an income, she reinvests it in her family, improving her children’s health, education and well being, and she contributes to the development of her community and nation. When we invest in girls we all win! We empower the next generation to reach their potential as leaders committed to the growth and development of their countries.
