My birthday was March 5! I’m officially entering the “late-twenties.” I’ve survived a quarter of a decade. By know, I should officially be considered an adult.
As you get older, your body starts to fail you. That’s exactly what happened on my birthday. Not my “official” March 5 day, but the day I had chosen to celebrate with all of my friends. Instead of partying at the OU Women’s Gymnastic Meet (where one of our gymnasts received a perfect 10!), I ended up in the emergency room hooked to an IV. I cried all the way to the ER knowing I was going to miss my birthday celebration, and knowing all my dear friends had cleared their Friday night to be with me, but I wouldn’t be showing up. It was miserable.
Though I had all the symptoms of appendicitis, I didn’t need to undergo emergency surgery! Such a blessing. And I’ve recovered quite well.
Despite my hospital visit, I had a fabulous 26th birthday. My parents came to visit the weekend before to purchase me a brand new sewing machine!
I’m sure some of you are asking, but wait!? Did you get one for Christmas? And the answer is yes. Yes, I did. But, it was a previously owned machine, and wasn’t worth the cost to get it fixed. Instead, my mom and dad just decided I should get a new one.
Soon after Christmas I purchased a sewing book that teaches beginners how to make 25 different dresses!
My goal this spring/summer/rest of the year is to make one of each! We’ll see how that goes. It’s not as easy as it looks. And I don’t have near enough supplies at this point. My wonderful husband Chris did find a hand full of goodies to fill my sewing box! His gift to me was sewing accessories. And lots of them!
I had everything I needed to get started…except fabric! With some of my birthday money from my Grandma and Aunt and Uncle, I went to the local Hobby Lobby to see what I could find! I completely fell in love with all the patterns and colors. Their Spring collection is fabulous! I definitely didn’t have the budget to get all that I wanted, but I’m off to a good start.
I have five lovely options to choose from, and so many ideas! I’ll get to make my very own clothes – one of a kind! It’s been a while since I’ve sewn anything, but the Stitching Post, where we purchased the machine offers free classes. When school is over this April, you’ll know where to find me!!
I’ll keep you up-to-date with my new creations and make sure to show off my hard work.
